Saarbrucken

50th birthday celebrations were the order of the day in Saarbrucken, for my penfriend, Leonore. We have been writing to each other for 36 years. It was great to see her again - it is about 4 years since I last saw her - and she doesn't look a day older. Lots of gossip, eating and drinking. I am going to go again next year, but take my car to enable us to have more mobility. I wonder how fast I can dare to do down the autobahn? This time I went by train, as I was already in Paris, so just got the train from Gare de l'Est. Strange how the engine has to be changed in Metz, but I suppose by the time the TGV starts up in 12months time, there won't be any more engine changes - and the journey time will be cut to just over 2 hours [currently its just over 4]
